Cyclamen coum
Persian Violet

DESCRIPTION
Cyclamen coum is a delightful perennial plant that is native to regions in southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia. This species is prized for its delicate, colorful flowers and attractive foliage, making it a popular choice for gardens and as a potted plant. The heart-shaped to round leaves are deep green with silver marbling, adding ornamental value even when the plant is not in bloom. The flowers, which appear in late winter to early spring, rise above the foliage on slender stems and have a distinctive shape with reflexed petals in shades of pink, magenta, or white.

This cyclamen prefers partial to full shade and well-draining, humus-rich soil. It thrives in cool, moist conditions and is well-suited for woodland gardens, rock gardens, or as an underplanting for trees and shrubs. Cyclamen coum requires minimal maintenance once established. It benefits from a layer of mulch to retain moisture and protect the shallow roots. Watering should be done sparingly to avoid waterlogged soil, especially during the summer dormancy period when the plant is not actively growing.
