Iris 'Crow's Feet'

Iris 'Crow's Feet' is a border bearded iris with ruffled flowers that bloom in early midseason. The standards are crisp white, while the white falls are covered with closely spaced purple veining that radiates from the center toward the petal edges. Purple shading becomes more concentrated toward the outer portions of the falls, leaving a narrow pale rim along much of the edge. White beards tipped orange add a warm accent among the intricate markings. The flowers have a slight musky fragrance and rise above compact fans of upright, sword-shaped green foliage.

Hybridized by Paul Black, 'Crow's Feet' was registered and introduced through Mid-America Garden in 2006. It received an American Iris Society Honorable Mention in 2008, Award of Merit in 2010, and the Knowlton Medal in 2012, the AIS medal for Border Bearded irises. Its compact stature and detailed white-and-purple flowers make it particularly useful near the front of sunny borders, where the fine veining can be appreciated at close range.
