Iris 'Peggy Sue'

Iris 'Peggy Sue' is a tall bearded iris with softly ruffled pink flowers and a pronounced sweet fragrance. The standards open a warm, delicate pink, while the falls carry a slightly softer pink tone, creating subtle shading rather than a strong contrast between the petals. Mandarin-red beards bring a concentrated splash of deeper color to the center of each bloom. Flowering can extend from early through late season, and the cultivar is also known for reblooming. Upright, sword-shaped green foliage forms neat fans beneath the flowering stems.

Hybridized by Larry Lauer, 'Peggy Sue' was registered and introduced in 2006. It received an American Iris Society Honorable Mention in 2008 and Award of Merit in 2010. Its soft, nearly monochromatic coloring makes it particularly useful for carrying pink through a sunny border without overwhelming neighboring flowers. The long potential bloom period, fragrance, and ability to rebloom add further interest in mixed plantings.
