Iris 'Power Surge'

Iris 'Power Surge' is a tall bearded iris with large, heavily ruffled flowers that bloom over an extended season. The standards are rich violet-purple through their centers, softening to dusty mauve along the rippled edges. Broad falls are creamy peach to pale apricot, becoming almost ivory near the center and showing delicate warm veining across the petals. Bright orange beards provide a vivid accent between the contrasting upper and lower petals. Upright, sword-shaped green foliage forms sturdy fans beneath the flowering stems.

Introduced in 1991 by hybridizer Joseph Ghio through Bay View Gardens, 'Power Surge' received an American Iris Society Honorable Mention in 1993. Its unusual pairing of cool purple with muted peach gives it a sophisticated presence in sunny plantings, while its long flowering season helps carry color through much of the iris display. It works especially well in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and dedicated iris beds.
