About this plant
Iris 'School Zone' is a tall bearded iris with broad, nine-inch amoena flowers opening in midseason. Creamy white to yellow standards rise above rich purple falls edged with a delicate lighter rim, while yellow beards add warmth at the center. The gently ruffled blooms carry a soft musky fragrance and appear generously, with eight to nine buds produced per stalk. Upright, sword-shaped green foliage forms substantial fans beneath the flowers.
Introduced by Schreiner's Gardens in 2026, 'School Zone' was registered as seedling YY217-A and comes from the Schreiner breeding program in Oregon. Its tall presence and two-tone coloring suit sunny borders, cottage gardens, and dedicated iris beds. Position it toward the middle or back of plantings, along walkways, or among other spring-flowering perennials where its generous blooms can also be enjoyed for cutting.

Design tip
Plant 'School Zone' where its tall stems can emerge through lower layers without crowding neighboring plants. Leaving small pockets of open ground around each clump gives the upright foliage a cleaner outline and keeps the bed from becoming visually heavy after flowering ends.
