Iris 'Speed of Light'

Iris 'Speed of Light' is a tall bearded iris with large, heavily ruffled flowers that appear very early in the iris season. Bright golden-yellow standards rise above broad white falls surrounded by wide golden-yellow margins that soften as they blend toward the pale centers. White beards tipped with yellow continue the two-tone coloring, while the deeply rippled petals give the flowers a full, sculptural appearance. Upright, sword-shaped green foliage forms sturdy fans beneath the flowering stems.

Created by hybridizer Joseph Ghio and introduced by Schreiner's Gardens in 2023, 'Speed of Light' stands out for its unusually early flowering and bold gold-and-white blooms. Its bright coloring is particularly effective for bringing warmth to early-season perennial borders and iris beds, while the large flowers also make an excellent choice for prominent locations where their elaborate form can be appreciated.
