About this plant
Rosa 'Ballerina' is a hybrid musk shrub-type rose that blooms in clouds of single, pale pink flowers with white centers. Its small blossoms emerge in generous clusters from late spring through fall, often hiding the foliage beneath layers of blooms. A delicate honey-like fragrance gently accompanies the floral display.
Introduced in 1937 in England, 'Ballerina' (sometimes called the "pink snowstorm") produces persistent blooms and later develops small orange-red hips that add autumn interest. Gardeners cherish it for its graceful habit and continuous flowering habit, which make it well-suited for rose beds, hedges, or groundcover-like planting.
Planting & care
Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Shrub roses need only light thinning, keeping their natural full shape and repeat bloom.
