About this plant
Rosa 'Maurice Utrillo' is a hybrid tea rose distinguished by its painterly blooms featuring stripes and splashes of red, cream, yellow, and strokes of pink. The cupped, double flowers emerge throughout the growing season in flushes from late spring into autumn, emitting a moderate fruity fragrance. Known for cleanliness and disease resistance, this rose holds well in mixed borders or as a florally dramatic specimen.
Bred in France by Georges Delbard in 2004, it was introduced into U.S. gardens in 2019. Named in honor of the French painter Maurice Utrillo, it belongs to the Delbard "Painters Collection." Roses of this lineage are celebrated for artistic coloration, repeat blooming, reliable performance, and floral beauty that endures across multiple garden seasons.
Planting & care
Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Long, straight stems make hybrid teas ideal for cutting, so give each plant room and airflow.
