About this plant
Rosa 'McCartney Rose' is a hybrid tea rose with large, full double blooms in deep rosy‑pink and darker pink reverses. These blossoms-each carrying a sweet, candy‑like fragrance-open from tight pointed buds and appear in flushes from late spring through early fall. Its long-lasting petals and fragrant sprays make it excellent for cutting.
Bred by Alain Meilland in France and introduced in 1992 (United States in 1998), the rose honors Sir Paul McCartney. The combination of its powerful scent, bold coloring, and consistent repeat blooming has earned it awards such as the Portland Rose Society Gold Medal. Elegantly bold yet garden‑worthy, 'McCartney Rose' adds presence to beds, borders, or as a fragrant focal point.
Planting & care
Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Long, straight stems make hybrid teas ideal for cutting, so give each plant room and airflow.
