About this plant
Rosa 'Opening Night' is a hybrid tea rose with rich, velvety red blooms that carry a subtle, sweet fragrance. The blossoms unfold from elegant pointed buds and appear in repeated flushes from late spring through fall, held on glossy deep green foliage. Blooms are long-lasting in vase or garden settings.
Introduced in 1998 under the cultivar name 'JAColber', this rose was the first true red hybrid tea to win the All‑America Rose Selections award in 14 years. Its bold coloration, formal bloom structure, and reliable performance have made it a favorite for cutting gardens, focal planting, or classic rose beds.
Planting & care
Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Long, straight stems make hybrid teas ideal for cutting, so give each plant room and airflow.
