About this plant

Rosa 'Princess Alexandra of Kent' is an English shrub rose bearing large, bright pink blooms with a full, deeply cupped form that holds a fresh Tea fragrance progressing into lemon and hints of blackcurrant. The flowers are repeat flushers from late spring through autumn, held above glossy, healthy foliage. Its strong perfume is one of its most celebrated features, making it valued in gardens and for cutting.

Bred by David Austin and introduced in 2007 under the cultivar name Ausmerchant, this rose was named in honor of Princess Alexandra, an avid gardener. Its graceful form, vivid coloration, and fragrant blooms make it a standout in borders, rose beds, or mixed perennial plantings.

Planting & care

Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Shrub roses need only light thinning, keeping their natural full shape and repeat bloom.
