About this plant

Rosa 'Wekblunez', sold as Memorial Day™, is a hybrid tea rose with bold orchid pink blooms and classic rose fragrance. The large, old-fashioned flowers have a ruffled form and are often borne singly on long, upright stems, making them excellent for cutting. Their color deepens toward the center, sometimes taking on warm lavender undertones in cooler temperatures.

Introduced in the United States, Memorial Day rose was named in honor of the national holiday, known for its sense of remembrance and beauty. Its fragrance is considered exceptionally strong, often described as a true damask scent. This rose has earned acclaim in rose trials for both performance and fragrance, making it a memorable choice for gardens and bouquets alike.

Planting & care

Roses reward a sunny, open site with at least six hours of direct light, good air movement, and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Water deeply and less often, soaking the root zone while keeping the leaves dry, and mulch with two to three inches of compost or shredded bark held back from the canes. Feed repeat-blooming roses in early spring as growth starts and again after the first flush, then prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing canes and open the center. Long, straight stems make hybrid teas ideal for cutting, so give each plant room and airflow.
