Peonies

Peonies are admired for their large, fragrant blooms that come in a range of colors from soft pastels to deep, rich hues. Their flowers can be fluffy and densely packed with petals, or single with a simpler, more open form. These hardy plants offer a bold presence in gardens, blooming in late spring to early summer and leaving a lasting impression with their elegant form and sweet fragrance.

How to Choose

Flower form: Single, semi-double, bomb and full double forms differ in how much support the stems will need.

Bloom season: Early, mid and late varieties together can carry blooms across four to six weeks.

Fragrance: Scent varies from rich and rosy to almost none, so it is worth choosing deliberately.

Sun and drainage: Peonies want full sun, well-drained soil and shallow planting to flower reliably for decades.
