How to Choose
Flower form: Single, double, lily-flowered, fringed, parrot and viridiflora forms give very different silhouettes.
Bloom season: Early, mid and late varieties layered together can carry tulips through six weeks of spring.
Perennial tendency: Darwin hybrids and species tulips return most reliably; many showy types are best treated as annuals.
Height and drainage: Match stem height to the setting and plant in well-drained ground so bulbs do not rot over winter.
